Morrisons has confirmed its agreement to take 10 former Best Buy stores for its Kiddicare brand.
Best Buy’s parent company, Carphone Warehouse, is understood to have paid Morrisons to take its stores in Aintree, Bristol, Croydon, Enfield, Hayes, Hedge End, Merry Hill, Nottingham, Rotherham and Thurrock.
The supermarket group plans to invest around £15m to convert the stores.
Best Buy opened its first UK store in West Thurrock, Essex, in April 2010. However, it closed all 11 of its UK Best Buy stores last week after a failed 2008 tie-up with the US retailer of the same name.
Scott Weavers-Wright, chief executive of Kiddicare, said: “These 10 flagship stores will put Kiddicare within easy driving distance of nearly a third of the UK population. As well as being fantastic destination superstores for families across the country, they are the ideal platform for Kiddicare.com to lead the baby market by giving a true multi-channel experience.”
Curson Sowerby and DTZ advised Best Buy.
