Westfield’s £1bn plans to regenerate 22 acres in White City, were last night given a stamp of approval.
The firm will create 1,522 new homes, 550,000 sq ft of shops, 55,000 sq ft of restaurants, as well as offices on the land to the north of its White City shopping centre on either side of Ariel Way.
As part of planning permission from Hammersmith & Fulham council, Westfield will contribute £20m toward improvements to the community, including £3.9m for works to Shepherds Bush overground train station, with an extension to the ticket office, a new entrance and for lengthening the platform.
Councillor Harry Phibbs, the council’s cabinet member for community engagement, said: “This development is bringing positive change, improvements and jobs to an area that needs revitalising. It fits in with our vision that Hammersmith should be a borough of opportunity for all, and this will be a welcome boost to the local economy and community.”
The phased project is expected to take around 17 years to complete.
