A London campaign group has threatened to fight plans for a ‘rip-off’ Shard on the former BBC Worldwide site, W12.
The St Helen’s residents’ association said it wants Imperial College to halve in height its plans for a 360ft tower across 35 storeys at the former BBC offices next to Westway.
Imperial submitted the proposals for the 7.7-acre site to Hammersmith & Fulham council in 2010. The plans also comprise student accommodation, flats, a hotel and offices. It purchased the site in 2009 from BBC Worldwide for £28m.
Henry Peterson, chairman of the residents’ association, said the proposed building would resemble a weak rip-off of the Shard, and that it would block sunlight to properties and lead to extra traffic.
He said the group is prepared to fight the plans.
