Sip of bottled optimism

Agents at Estates Gazette’s East of England Focus reception in Cambridge last month seemed pretty happy. In fact, it appeared to be more than a case of just being well-rested after the Christmas break; there was some genuine confidence in the property market, something we have yet to see in other regional markets. It was as if someone had replaced the Cab Sav and Peroni with bottled optimism.

Is this optimism genuine? Well, most seemed to think that Cambridge had escaped the worst of the recession’s ravages, but other parts of the region are still working things out.

More than 40 agents from across the region joined EG to discuss the market over a lunchtime glass of wine at the River Bar. For some, that discussion (and the wine) stretched into the night.

Winners of the EGi deals competition were announced. Barker Storey Matthews lifted the regional agent crown, while Savills took the national agent award.
