Investment company Seven Capital has won consent for the second phase of its £100m redevelopment of the Fiveways shopping centre and Auchinleck office tower sites in Birmingham.
Planners at Birmingham council have given the go-ahead to redevelop the run-down 1960s-built, 85,000 sq ft shopping centre. Plans include a large conferencing and banqueting suite, alongside a 26,000 sq ft retail unit, which could potentially be a food store. This will link in to the first phase of the redevelopment – the change of use of former office tower Auchinleck House into a hotel, which was granted consent in January.
The first phase will see the vacant 102,257 sq ft office tower turned into a four-star, 300-bedroom hotel, with rooftop restaurant operated by Australian hotel management firm StayWell Group – subject to the completion of a Section 106 agreement. The scheme has been designed by architect 5plus.
To make the project financially viable, the company needed to take advantage of tax benefits via the government’s Business Premises Regeneration Allowance initiative. To do this, permission was needed this month.
