Third runway pressure mounts

New research has put the government under further pressure to reconsider a third Heathrow runway.

The Oxford Economics report commissioned by BAA said failure to reconsider the case would jeopardise inward investment. The findings estimate the UK will forgo annual gross domestic product of £8.5bn by 2021 without a third runway. The Unite and GMB unions linked with the Institute of Directors to warn it was “plain daft” not to consider expanding Heathrow. Justine Greening, transport secretary, said at the opening of London Southend airport’s new passenger terminal that Heathrow was located in the wrong place .
