The £600m first phase regeneration of Canning Town is to begin this summer.
The Bouygues Development scheme in the London Borough of Newham won planning approval in January and the start date was announced today at MIPIM.
The redevelopment of the town centre will include a 70,000 sq ft Morrison’s supermarket as a main retail anchor, as well as 179 homes.
It forms a key part of Newham’s £3.7bn Canning Town and Custom House masterplan.
Sir Robin Wales, mayor of London Borough of Newham, said: “This scheme is the real game-changer for Canning Town, and illustrates the scale of our ambition when it comes to delivering regeneration in Newham. More than that though, it is being delivered very much for the local community and with existing residents at its heart. They will benefit from a new town centre and all the opportunities that come with that – jobs, new homes and community facilities.”
