Urban Splash to build family homes in Manchester

Tom Bloxham’s Urban Splash has identified its New Islington site in Manchester for its pilot development of “reinvented” family homes.

It is understood that Urban Splash aims to begin development on the houses, in the Ancoats area of the city, within the next two months. The firm is likely to build eight homes in the first instance.

The two- and three-storey houses will be capable of being customised with individual layouts.

Architect Shedkm, which was founded by Urban Splash chief executive Jonathan Falkingham, has planning consent for 44 homes at New Islington.

The houses will be built on land previously earmarked for Urban Splash’s Tutti Frutti residential scheme. In 2008, the firm won planning consent for the first six of 26 terraced homes which would be individually designed by the homeowner. The Tutti Frutti scheme was put on hold due to the recession.
