Derwent to redevelop W2 cinema

Derwent London has won planning consent to redevelop the old Queens cinema in Bayswater, W2, into flats and shops.

The developer has permission to convert the cinema, which closed in the 1980s, into 16 flats and 2,800 sq ft of retail space, following approval by Westminster city council.

A payment in lieu of an affordable housing requirement and a significant contribution to improvements to the public realm have been agreed by Derwent as part of the deal.

Work on the Stiff & Trevillion-designed scheme is expected to begin in early 2013, with completion due for the end of 2014.

Turley Associates advised Derwent.
