Neptune submits Chester plans

Liverpool-based Neptune Developments has submitted a planning application for the £6.4m redevelopment of Chester’s historic shot tower and lead works.

Neptune plans to transform the Grade II-listed building into 53 flats, plus retail and leisure space, designed by architect Broadway Malyan.

The Chester shot tower – where balls of lead shot for muskets were manufactured – was built in 1799 and is the oldest remaining shot tower in the country, with only two others standing.

Neptune hopes to be on site this summer, with completion due in summer 2013.

Steve Parry, managing director of Neptune, said: “This will bring an interesting part of Chester’s heritage back into use and bring much needed affordable housing onto the market.”
