Sir Tom Hunter has branded a government attack on rich individuals who benefit from tax relief donations as “stupid”.
The Scottish businessman, who has given more than £50m to good causes, said: “Why pass a law that maybe catches a few who are doing the wrong thing, but 99% of people who give to charity are doing absolutely the right thing?” George Osborne, chancellor, wants to limit tax breaks for donations to good causes after he was “shocked” by the scale of tax avoidance.
