Labour’s candidate for mayor of London has launched his manifesto, which includes a pledge on rents.
Ken Livingstone also plans to reopen foreign “embassies” to promote London abroad. The Tories published a report entitled London can’t afford Ken Livingstone. It claims he has made at least £2.7bn of “unfunded promises”. Elsewhere, councils are trying to undermine plans for directly elected city mayors by trying to persuade residents to vote against the idea in referendums on 3 May. Labour leader Ed Miliband has refused to promise he will support his MPs if they want to stand for election as city mayors.
