Stobart Developments is a step closer to the 1.3m sq ft expansion of its Stobart Park scheme at the Mersey Multimodel Gateway in Widnes, Cheshire, after the local council granted consent for the remediation of 80 acres of land.
Stobart has been granted consent to remediate the land, which was used to deposit galligu waste – a chemical waste common to the area – between 1995 and 1998.
The remediation will allow Stobart to develop the land, which forms part of the 3MG scheme, on a design-and-build basis. It will offer up to 1.3m sq ft of storage and distribution space, plus offices and vehicle parking.
As part of the development, a new railway siding will be created to connect the site to the West Coast mainline railway.
Tesco has already taken two buildings at Stobart Park, totalling 528,000 sq ft.
