Busy month for Irish property auctions

An average of €1m (£800m) per day was spent at Irish property auctions in May, making it one of the busiest months since 2005, according to the Irish Independent.

More than €33m was spent in five large auctions, where 134 homes, pubs, farms and ghost estates were sold off. The auctions were held in Dublin, Galway, Leitrim and Roscommon.

While most of the properties sold for less than €200,000, three sold for more than €2m. A 160-acre non-residential farm in County Dublin achieved the top price, at €2.05m.

This stands in contrast to figures from last year, when many large property auctions failed.
