Aberdeen Asset Management’s managing director of UK property fund management, John O’Connor, is to retire at the end of the month.
As already announced, his successor will be Andrew Creighton, who is joining Aberdeen in September from Henderson Global Investors, where he is director of property and head of balanced funds.
At Henderson Creighton’s responsibilities have included fund management, oversight of key UK and international segregated client relationships, the management and development of the company’s range of pooled property funds and the management of Henderson’s French property business.
O’Connor, who started work in the UK property sector in 1968 and has been involved with investment since 1973, will step down when he turns 65 at the end of the month.
Aberdeen manages around £20bn in property portfolios on behalf of clients around the world, including £4.7bn invested in the UK.
Andrew Smith, Aberdeen’s global head of property, said: “John’s career spans five decades and over this time he has been at the forefront of property investing. His dedication and hard work mean John is leaving Aberdeen’s UK property business in tremendous shape.
“Everyone at Aberdeen wishes John all the best in his retirement.
“Andrew brings considerable experience to assist us in developing further our UK property investment capabilities.”
