Barmston Developments, a joint venture between Wilton Developments and Clugston Estates, has secured the £22.5m presale of a distribution facility within Sunderland’s enterprise zone.
Barmston will build a 422,000 sq ft industrial unit for logistics firm Vantec Europe at Turbine Business Park in what is understood to be the largest occupational deal to be signed within the UK’s new enterprise zones to date.
In total, Barmston has consent for up to 715,000 sq ft of employment space on the enterprise zone site.
Vantec Europe provides warehousing and logistics space to local manufacturers including Nissan Sunderland.
Barmston Developments director Jason Stowe said: “We have started on-site and the build programme for the 422,000 sq ft distribution facility will be completed by the end of the year, meaning we will have negotiated, secured planning consent, built and handed over the North East’s largest presale warehouse all within a 12-month time span.”
Martin Kendall, managing director of Vantec Europe, added: “The investment in the new warehouse next to the car plant will support our existing warehouse in Sunderland, and will confirm our position as the largest supplier of critical logistics to the Nissan Sunderland plant.”
