Shanly chairman convicted

Shanly Group chairman Michael Shanly has been convicted of tax evasion in a case bought by Revenue & Customs.

The wealthy property developer hid money in a secret Swiss bank account. Wood Green Crown court, in north London, ordered him to pay a £400,000 penalty and costs and the £430,000 inheritance tax bill he previously dodged. The conviction was helped with the use of a stash of stolen HSBC Bank data the tax authorities obtained two years ago.
