Sony entertains West End plan

Sony’s new chief executive’s plans to better integrate the company could spark a 100,000 sq ft West End and City fringe requirement.

Jones Lang LaSalle has been instructed to review options for the entertainment giant following the appointment of Kazuo Hirai in February.

Sony is split into three divisions in London: electronics, music and Sony Pictures and Entertainment.

SPE occupies 90,000 sq ft across two buildings in Golden Square, W1, 60,000 sq ft of which has a lease break in 2015.

Parts of the electronics division, in Basingstoke, Berkshire, and Weybridge, Surrey, and music division, in Kensington, W8, could also be brought together.

Last month, EG revealed that Sony was looking for 80,000 sq ft for Sony Computer Entertainment in Liverpool, Manchester and the M56 and M62 corridors through Rice Consulting.

Elsewhere, Vodafone has appointed Colliers International to search for 50,000 sq ft around Old Street, EC1. It wants to move out of its Paddington, W2, base to the technology hub.

All parties declined to comment.
