A previously rejected 350-home scheme in Norfolk has won planning approval using the presumption in favour of sustainable development.
Permission for Landstock Estates’ scheme at Carpenter’s Barn in Wymondham was refused by South Norfolk council in December 2011.
Ahead of a public inquiry, planning consultant Barton Willmore approached the council to consider a re-submitted application in light of recent case law regarding localism and the NPPF and its requirement for a five-year land supply.
The authority gave the green light to the resubmitted application and the appeal was withdrawn.
The project had originally been granted consent in September 2011 but then recalled and refused in the light of communities secretary Eric Pickles’ rejection of Cala Homes’ Barton Farm project in Winchester.
Andrew Wilford, an associate in Barton Willmore’s Ebbsfleet office said: “Council members had to take a difficult decision in the face of some strong local opposition.
“The fact they were willing to reconsider the application in the light of the NPPF shows a very sensible and proactive approach that saved a lot of time and expense on all sides.”
