Chester Zoo gets tropical

Planners have given the go-ahead for a £30m tropical island to be built at Chester Zoo.

The scheme will transform an unoccupied 500,000 sq ft part of Chester Zoo’s estate into the islands of the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Bali, Sumatra, Sumba and Sulawesi.

Islands is the first phase in the zoo’s 20-year Natural Vision project, which aims to transform the destination into a world-class tourist attraction.

Barton Wilmore advised on planning.
