Oxford city council’s plans to build a new neighbourhood at Barton can now move forward after the Planning Inspectorate approved the Area Action Plan.
Oxford city council and its development partner Grosvenor have also recently carried out further consultation on the masterplan paving the way for the development of up to 900 new homes.
The masterplan also includes the development of retail facilities and a new primary school.
The inspector’s report will now be submitted to the full council on 17 December with a recommendation to adopt the AAP, which will be decided at the meeting. The AAP will then form the basis of a planning application decision to be made in 2013.
Councillor Bob Price, leader of Oxford city council, said: “The council will now be moving quickly ahead to realise our aspiration for 800-900 much-needed new homes for rent and to buy that will be built to an agreed plan that helps to meet our housing needs and provides a high quality sustainable environment for the residents.”
