The Campaign to Protect Rural England’s chairman, Andrew Motion, has launched a personal attack on planning minister Nick Boles.
Motion called Boles “incredibly irresponsible” for his plans to allow building on 2m acres of rural land. His attack became more personal when he said Boles had brought an inappropriately “abrasive and irksome” attitude to the job. He said the minister’s comments last week on BBC2’s Newsnight that large areas of “open land” may have to be given over for housing were wrong “on just about every level”. The Department for Communities and Local Government said the government had repeatedly made clear its planning reforms safeguarded the countryside and maintained protections for green belt and countryside, including areas of outstanding natural beauty.
