Baker steps down at Galliford Try

Galliford Try’s Ian Baker has stepped down as group managing director of housebuilding with immediate effect because of sudden ill-health.

Baker will remain with the housebuilding and construction business, where he is also a member of the executive board, until November 2013.

The two current divisional housebuilding managing directors will report directly to chief executive Greg Fitzgerald, who will oversee the housebuilding division for an interim period while a successor for Baker’s position is sought internally and externally.

Development Securities’ group finance director Graham Prothero will formally join the Galliford Try board as group finance director with effect 1 February.

Fitzgerald said: “It is with great personal sadness that we report that Ian Baker has had to step down from the executive board in the most unfortunate circumstances. The board and I thank Ian for his contribution across his career with Galliford Try.”

“The board have put in place contingency arrangements to cover Ian’s absence and we will update the market regarding the appointment of a successor when possible.”

Galliford Try chairman Ian Coull added: “The board looks forward to welcoming Graham to Galliford Try early in the new year, and benefitting from his considerable financial and industry expertise. We, as a board, also extend our best wishes for a swift recovery to Ian as well as our support to his family at this difficult time.”
