Developer WLTM council officer for LTRProperty teams

Property and planning professionals are warming to the idea of speed dating.

No, not the interview-a-parade-of-singletons-in-a-bar-and-quaff-wine-’til-they-all-look-like-George Clooney/Jennifer Lawrence kind, but something slightly less casual and possibly more gainful.

Sitematch is an innovative speed dating-style event which matches developers and occupiers with senior officers from London councils and other bodies. Last week City Hall filled with the whirr of some 350 snappy meetings as 250 or so delegates thrashed out development opportunities across the capital.

This was the third event of its kind, with attendance up 25% from previous events.

Toby Fox, director at event organiser 3Fox International, said these events help unlock “some of the UK’s most valuable development opportunities”.

The day also included speeches from Berkeley Group’s Tony Pidgley and London’s deputy mayor for housing, Richard Blakeway.

Property teams strike it lucky for charity

A spot of competition at the bowling alley made an honest bunch of a number of industry professionals last week.

Teams from firms such as CBRE, Capita Symonds, Knight Frank and Blackstanniland descended on Rowans Ten Pin Bowling centre in Islington, London, for a charity event organised by the Sainsbury’s estates team.

“Frankly, we were bowled over by the competition,” said James Fee, head of commercial sales for VPS, the competition sponsor, before adding wryly: “But there was a ringer in lane seven who got more strikes than a box of matches.”

The event raised more than £1,000 for Comic Relief.

Musical cheers as Glasgow’s big gig returns

Brace yourselves, lovers of live music: a date has been confirmed for the 2013 Great Big Property Gig.

On 13 June, the Glasgow property industry’s maestros will rock it out on stage at the eighth annual charity gig to raise money for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association and Cancer Research UK.

Sponsored by Abstract Securities, Wallace Whittle and Park Lane, the gig will see property’s music fans converge to the thud of a drum kit and the strum of electric guitars.

Committee member Andy Outram of Turner & Townsend said: “We’ve raised a fantastic amount of money over the past few years, more than we ever expected, so let’s keep the momentum going and show everyone that despite tough times, the Scottish property industry can still do its bit for charity.”

The event will be held at The Ferry in Glasgow. Bands returning by popular demand are the Soul Doctors and the Midget Millers. Everyone attending has a chance to win an electric guitar.
