The BBC has announced plans to undertake a refurbishment of its Seymour Road site in Plymouth, Devon, rather than a relocation.
Architects AWW and project managers Davis Langdon have been appointed on the 21,500 sq ft property, which recently secured consent for a new reception and extension.
In 2007, the BBC agreed to relocate to a new Sutton Harbour Holdings building at East Quays, Sutton Harbour. However, work stopped on the site in the summer of 2008.
The original plan would have seen the sale of the Seymour Road site for residential redevelopment.
Leo Devine, head of regional and local programmes, BBC South West, said: “Refurbishing our freehold site at Seymour Road is now the most appropriate way to carry out the necessary upgrades to our broadcast technology to ensure we continue to deliver a quality service to our audiences in the South West.”
