Stanhope and Schroders have secured planning consent for the first phase of the £500m Ruskin Square scheme in Croydon.
Croydon council has given the green light for 161 flats designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, spread between nine and 22 storeys.
The scheme is part of a masterplan for the nine-acre Ruskin Square site adjacent to East Croydon Station.
Outline planning consent was secured in July 2011 for a Fosters & Partners-designed 2m sq ft development comprising 1m sq ft of offices and 550 homes.
Ian Mason, fund director at Schroders, said: “We want to ensure that there is animation and activity on this important site, together with the new bridge at East Croydon Station, so that Ruskin Square fulfils its role as Croydon’s gateway. With other positive developments in planning and development in the town, this is great news for the regeneration of Croydon.”
