Events: EG writers carry off awards

After a hard day’s work sniffing out the best stories, the Estates Gazette team has been known to let their hair down at awards nights, hoping to clink their glasses to a win by the night’s end.

Well, there were clinks all round recently at the LSL Property Press Awards, where EG was named Property Trade Magazine of the Year for the second time in three years.

Individual efforts were also recognised: senior reporter Nick Whitten won Scoop of the Year for his influential empty rates investigation; Annabel Dixon, Jack Sidders and Joanne Bourke received medals; and Sophia Furber was shortlisted.

The awards, which are judged by some of the most influential names in the residential sector, were presented by former Sunday Times editor Andrew Neil.

Trekking up the Moroccan highlands

In a month’s time, a team of 12 people from Citygrove and Legal & General Property will put their hardiest foot forward for a difficult trek up into the highlands of Morocco.

The team will delve through the peaks of the High Atlas Mountains, with their eye on the 13,671ft summit of Mt Toubkal, which they hope to reach within five days.

In taking on the challenge they hope to raise enough money to buy a specially adapted minibus for Variety, the children’s charity.

Thrills galore for Badger Holdings

Charity fundraising can be a thrilling undertaking. Just look at the folk at Badger Holdings, who skydived, cycled and survived an assault course, among a host of other activities, to generate cash for Shooting Star Chase.

After a year of epic fundraising, Badger Holdings, which is parent company to Townends and Regents Estate Agents, Dot Financial Services, Tyser Greenwood Surveyors and INEX Property Solutions, handed over £79,100 to the charity, which supports families who have children with life-limiting conditions.

Badger Holdings chief executive Séamus Kavanagh said: “The level of support and generosity shown by our employees over the past 12 months has been truly inspirational.”
