Boots teams up with BioCity

Alliance Boots and bioscience incubation company BioCity have established new medical business incubator space called MediCity in Nottingham.

MediCity will be a subsidiary of BioCity and will provide start-up and fully serviced office and laboratory space, based at the Alliance Boots site in Beeston.

MediCity will be located in the existing Grade I-listed 1930s-built D6 building, in which two-thirds (75,350 sq ft) of the space has been refurbished by Morgan Sindall.

It is expected that MediCity will be open to businesses later this year.

Alex Gourlay, chief executive, health & beauty division, at Alliance Boots, said: “We warmly welcome MediCity onto our site. Alliance Boots and BioCity’s complementary expertise will attract businesses to MediCity and further enhance our existing innovation hub in Nottingham. Today’s news illustrates our progress in developing the site, as well as our continued commitment to Nottingham and the wider UK economy.”

The 279-acre Boots site was granted enterprise zone status in March 2011, along with three other smaller sites – the Beeston Business Park, Nottingham Science Park and the MediPark site at Queens Medical Centre, which together make up 286-acres.

The site comprises a range of buildings for refurbishment and redevelopment and also includes around 100 acres of brownfield developable land.
