A joint venture between The Crown Estate and Land Securities has unveiled plans for redeveloping the Westgate Centre in Oxford.
The Westgate Alliance jv has proposed extending the existing shopping centre and adjacent land.
Outline plans include 70 new shops, including a 32,808 sq ft John Lewis, cafés, a 1,000-space car park and covered streets and public squares.
New homes adjacent to Castle Mill Stream are also proposed.
Sara Fuge, development manager for the Westgate Alliance, said: “We want to create an exciting new destination in the heart of Oxford that will attract visitors from across the city and beyond.”
A public consultation on Alliance’s scheme begins today. A second consultation will be held later in the year on more detailed designs.
