The industry was hot to trot on a blazing hot day at Ascot, with 12 intrepid property people braving the one-mile straight on horseback in a charity race.
The amateur jockeys were cheered on by more than 1,000 of their champagne-fuelled peers who had turned out in their finery for the 7th annual Property Race Day, one of the biggest networking events on the calendar.
A train was chartered from Waterloo to get the congregation to the races, where they were welcomed by a band and enjoyed a lunch, then bid furiously at a silent auction, which included prizes such as a South African safari and a trip on The World cruise liner.
Property Race Day chairman David Erwin said the day had managed to raise more than £200,000 for charity.
“Our 2013 event has been the most successful yet. The charity race was a highlight and my congratulations and respect go out to the amateur property jockeys who gave up their time and food in order to entertain the crowds and to help raise substantial funds for our charities.”
This was the inaugural amateur charity race, with John Reddington of Reddington Construction, who rode Avon Reed, securing the trophy.
Money was raised for the charities Land Aid, Hope and homes, Wherever the Need, Project Hope and Well Child.
