Oxfordshire office-to-resi win

Lakesmere Developments has won planning permission to convert offices in Kidlington, Oxfordshire, into a residential development.

Cherwell district council has approved proposals to redevelop 15,069 sq ft 1-2 Lakesmere Close, into 18 houses and four flats.

It is the first office-to-residential application the council has dealt with since new permitted development rights for the conversions began in May.

David Gilbert, head of Lambert Smith Hampton’s Oxford office, which advised Lakesmere, said: “The new legislation aims to ensure the very best use is made of empty and underused buildings and gives office owners the chance to offer developers the opportunity to transform outdated buildings into housing in circumstances where it would otherwise remain empty.”

The site is now being offered for sale.
