GVA named top Newcastle agent

GVA has been crowned top of the Newcastle office agents league table.

The national agent rose from third place in the 12 months to the end of August 2012 to the top spot this year, pipping DTZ to the post.

Despite signing fewer deals than it did during the same period last year, it managed to increase its market share, upping the amount of space it signed for by 30% to nearly 80,000 sq ft.

Its top placing was helped by a run of deals at Bede House, which made up nearly a third of all its transactions by area.

DTZ followed a close second with 61,000 sq ft of space transacted this year.

The market overall took a tumble. Deals were down by a third, although the amount of space transacted remained static.

The city’s reliance on the public sector continued with the largest deal signed to Gateshead council, a 40,000 sq ft letting at The Baltic Business Quarter in Newcastle city council’s accelerated development zone.
