The childhood home of former Beatle John Lennon has sold at auction for £480,000.
The three-bedroom house on Newcastle Road, in the Penny Lane area of Liverpool, sold for more than three times the guide price of £150,000.
Lennon, born in 1940, lived in the suburban red-brick terraced house until he was five, with his parents and grandparents.
Auctioneer Countrywide sold the house in a single-lot auction at the Cavern Club in Liverpool – the iconic Beatles venue which itself was recently sold at auction for £4.1m to a Lancashire-based development company.
The American buyer wished to remain anonymous, but took the property over the phone after a bidding war.
