Hotel group wins office conversion

Hong Kong-listed hotel group Dorsett Hospitality International this week won approval for a new 275-bedroom, four-star hotel at 9-13 Aldgate High Street, EC3.

The 13-storey, 105,000 sq ft scheme will replace an existing office building. City planning officer Peter Rees said the scheme should not be viewed as a “licence to convert old offices”, but recommended it for approval as the developer had been in talks with the authority for more than two years, during which time attitudes against office conversion had hardened.

Dorsett operates 19 hotels in China, Hong Kong and the UK, with six more in the pipeline.
