Government in Bloomsbury office reshuffle

Seven government agencies are to consolidate their office space into a single Bloomsbury building in a move it is claimed will save taxpayers £60m.

Sport England, UK Sport, the Arts Council, the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service, OFWAT, Horserace Betting Levy Board and the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner will occupy a combined 80,000 sq ft at 21 Bloomsbury Street, WC1 .

The deal reduces the government’s property footprint by 110,000 sq ft.

Cabinet Office minister and paymaster general Francis Maude said: “This government has a long-term plan to drive up efficiency because hard working families expect us to make the best possible use of office spaces.

“I’m delighted that this award-winning project will save taxpayers millions and will release property elsewhere.

“Congratulations to all who pulled this off – it’s a great example of how we can use our property estate more effectively by co-ordinating across different departments and agencies.”

The interior of the building, which formerly housed the Insolvency Service, has been totally renovated.

The saving is estimated 10 years based on the annual savings for the leasehold of each property released and the duration of the lease at 21 Bloomsbury Street.
