High street favourite Marks & Spencer has signed a deal to fill one of the largest empty sheds in Yorkshire.
The retailer has signed a 10-year lease with CBRE Global Investors for a 647,000 sq ft warehouse at Sheffield International Rail Freight Terminal.
It has agreed a rent of £4.15 per sq ft for the space.
M&S will transfer visual merchandise, store equipment and home furniture from its 1.1m sq ft distribution centre at Prologis Park in Bradford to the Sheffield facility.
Bradford will then be refocused around clothing, homeware and gifts.
The letting is part of the retailer’s strategy to build a network around three large sites in Bradford, Castle Donington ?and the London Gateway for its clothing, home and gift product lines.
Sources said that the deal was not affected by concerns over the proposed route of the HS2 rail link as the 10-year term was too short.
SIRFT sits off the M1 inside the Sheffield City Region Enterprise Zone, and is designed for direct rail access.
Moriarty & Company, GVA, Jones Lang LaSalle, Commercial Property Partners and CBRE are acting for CBRE GI; Cushman & Wakefield advised Marks & Spencer.
