Westminster rejects LREF plans

Organisers of the London Real Estate Forum are in talks with Westminster council about a revised planning application after an initial proposal to host this summer’s event in Berkeley Square, W1, was rejected.

Pipers said it remained confident the event would go ahead despite the council’s planning committee rejecting an application last night of a plan to erect 19 marquees on the north side of the square in June.

The first LREF ran last summer on the site, alongside the Glamour Awards run by Conde Nast. The Glamour Awards have been run on the site without planning permission for a number of years, though planning permission was granted for both events last year.

Nick McKeogh, director of Pipers, said: “The application to host LREF once again in Berkeley Square was recommended for approval but we understand the planning committee raised concerns around public access during the event.

“We are confident that these issues can be swiftly resolved and are in discussions with planning officers prior to submitting a fresh planning application which we believe can be acceptable to the planning committee.”

Boris Johnson is confirmed to speak at the launch of the event, which is supported by Estates Gazette.
