College stars in Top Gear track deal

Cambridge University’s Trinity College has bought the home of the test track for the BBC’s Top Gear.

The Cambridge college paid £50m to Rutland Group for the 897-acre site, which comprises a 516-acre airfield, 65 acres of commercial space, a 30-acre solar farm and 286 acres of agricultural land.

Rutland will remain as manager to bring forward plans including extending the 500,000 sq ft business park, building new homes and expanding the airfield business.

In 2008, Rutland had a masterplan for a 2,600 home-led regeneration of the airfield turned down.

Bidwells advised Trinity College; Strutt & Parker acted for Rutland.
