Marches LEP proposes 72,000 homes

Up to 72,000 homes could be delivered under plans included in the Marches local enterprise partnership’s recently published draft strategic economic plan.

The LEP board, which is led by the private sector and comprises Herefordshire, Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin councils, has launched the 100-page draft plan for public consultation.

The document states that the vision is dependent on creating a dedicated investment fund, and on more opportunities to unlock development land in the region and greater support for infrastructure projects.

Chairman of the Marches LEP, Graham Wynn, called the economic plan an investment proposition. He said: “It says that with the right financial levers, investment by Whitehall and the private sector in our region, we can create prosperity and growth for the people who live and work here and the businesses which are based here.

“The plan is the result of extensive work and research, and now we are entering a period of consultation with stakeholders and the business community. This is a vital document. It is our bid to government for a Marches growth deal.”
