Cambridge resi first phase approved

North West Cambs BIG

The University of Cambridge has won planning permission for the first phase of its £1bn residential-led North West Cambridge scheme.

Planners gave the nod this week to the first phase, which includes a 22,000 sq ft supermarket, shops and a doctors’ surgery around a central market square.

The university is due to select a development partner in the autumn.

Work will start later this year, with completion of the first phase scheduled for 2015. Outline permission for the 370-acre scheme, which will provide 3,000 homes, 2,000 student beds, a school and a hotel, was granted in February 2013.
