AstraZeneca has agreed to sell its 400-acre Cheshire research centre at Alderley Park to Manchester Science Parks (MSP).
The Financial Times says the new owners face a challenge to find tenants for the facility. MSP is backed by a consortium of local universities, councils and private investors. The local councils hope to build a cluster of life science companies at the site. One of the councils, Cheshire East, said 20 firms had committed to bringing 500 jobs and a further 1,000 were in the pipeline. AstraZeneca is moving its drug discovery arm to a new global centre in Cambridge.
