Matthews joins Montagu Evans

FINANCE: Former Deutsche Postbank UK boss Bruce Matthews has joined agent Montagu Evans as a consultant to expand its funding and debt advisory practice.

Montagu Evans appointed former DG Hyp’s London boss Andrew Goodbody to establish its debt advisory business in 2012. The division aims to assist clients with their debt-related issues and work closely with the firm’s agency teams to assist clients in securing debt for new purchases and refinances. Goodbody has since left the firm to join RBS.

Matthews has more than 15 years’ experience in the UK and western European real estate finance market including the last eight years as co-general manager at Deutsche Postbank.

At Postbank he was responsible for a credit portfolio of around €4bn, with 40 employees, but left the firm following the sale of its £1.4bn loan book to GE Capital Real Estate as part of its exit from the UK.

Prior to Postbank, Matthews was head of credit at ING-BHF Bank and has also worked at Credit Suisse.

He has been involved in a number of high-profile funding deals in London including More London , the Lancasters , Argent King’s Cross , The Walbrook , Ram Brewery and the former Dickins & Jones store on Regent Street.

Matthews said: “I am delighted to be joining Montagu Evans and bringing my key strengths to a highly respected professional partnership. I look forward to working with such an expert team.”

Montagu Evans managing partner Steve Thomas said: “This latest senior appointment is an incredibly valuable coup for our firm.

“With Bruce Matthews on board I am confident that we will significantly raise our presence in the market, broaden our client services and increase our market share.

“Our new colleague brings outstanding experience and expertise to our clients and this will allow us to continue to significantly expand our business, particularly in the wider transactional business.”
