Industrial market needs more spec development

AUDIO: There was a call for more development to happen in the industrial market today.

Speaking at the Completely Trade, Industrial & Logistics Marketplace at Old Spitalfields Market E1 occupiers and developers alike said there was a lack of good development and more speculative development should now start.

Alistair King, development director with Chancerygate, said his company had 400,000 sq ft currently on site or in planning. “We are getting strong early interest in our produce… [the] freehold side is still a really strong story.”

King added that Chancerygate is looking for up to 15 sites over the next 12 months for speculative development.

Dom Millar, managing director of The Completely Group said almost 300 people had signed up to attend the show, now in its second year. “We have most of the market represented, and we have twice as many occupiers as we did last year.”

New to this year’s show was three panel discussions entitled The Great Debate, which looked at whether developers are addressing the modern needs of occupiers.
