The Co-operative and Hermes have appointed a joint venture between Generate Land and Caddick Group to develop the first residential phase of the £800m NOMA masterplan in Manchester.
The joint venture, known as Moda Living, will build a 30-storey tower of about 450 flats on the corner of Miller Street and Rochdale Road.
Ground-floor retail will include cafés, bars and ancillary shops.
Moda is targeting a regional development portfolio covering the private rented sector (PRS) in Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow, on sites of upwards of 100 units.
Moda Living director Tony Brooks said: “We believe this is the best residential site in the UK outside London and the perfect opportunity to launch our brand, which we intend to make the new benchmark for the regional PRS and the flagship project for Moda Living.
The first designs for the development will be available for public consultation next week, and start on site is currently targeted for early summer 2015, with the first properties ready for occupation in 2017.
