Moorfield Group and Plus Shops Retail have agreed a deal with Premiere Cinemas to re-open the five-screen cinema at Cardiff’s Capitol Shopping Centre.
Premiere Cinemas has taken the 755-seat former Odeon cinema – which closed in 2001 – on a 25-year lease and will open in December following a £1m refurbishment.
Premiere Cinemas currently operates in Romford, Kings Lynn, and Worthing.
Other recent leisure signings at the centre include easyGym, Caffè Nero and Pret a Manger.
Mark Holmes, who manages MREF at Moorfield – the fund that manages the shopping centre, said: “It has been our aspiration for some time to re-open the cinema at Capitol and enhance the leisure offer at the centre. We are delighted that Premiere Cinemas will be up and running by Christmas.”
Kitchen La Frenais Morgan and EJ Hales acted for MREF; PDJ Cinemas were unrepresented.
