Camden approves midtown trophy revamp

TIAA Henderson Real Estate’s plans for a revamped 108,000 sq ft office building in London’s midtown are set to receive planning consent.

Camden council has resolved to grant planning permission for the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of Commonwealth House, WC1, which is to be renamed 1 New Oxford Street.

TIAA Henderson submitted a detailed application for the project, designed by Orms architects, at the end of July.

The building, which is owned by TH Real Estate’s Central London Office Fund, currently provides about 97,000 sq ft and is multilet.

The refurbished building will include retail on the ground and basement levels and an additional floor will be added.

TH Real Estate portfolio manager Ilna Patel said the building will be, “an exciting addition to London’s dynamic midtown district”.

“With a rapidly changing occupier base, it is essential to stay ahead of trends and adapt our strategies accordingly,” Patel added.
