HS2 budget under strain

Chairman of HS2, Sir David Higgins, is likely to rule out major changes to the high speed railway line’s route despite pressure on its £50bn budget.

HS2 and the government have already spent at least £800m on the project. The service is expected to be running between London and Birmingham by 2026, with a second section to Manchester and Leeds set for 2032-33.
