The Scottish Property Federation has appointed John Hamilton, chief executive of Winchburgh Developments, as its new chairman.
Hamilton will replace outgoing chairman Alasdair Humphrey, lead director of JLL Scotland, and will work closely with director David Melhuish.
Chris Stewart, chief executive of the Chris Stewart Group, will be the SPF’s new vice chairman.
The appointment comes as the SPF begins focusing on a new set of priorities, including the land and building transaction tax, increased energy efficiency demands for commercial and residential property development, and major tenancy reform in the private rented residential sector.
As chief executive of -Winchburgh Developments, Hamilton specialises in urban regeneration.
Melhuish said: “The next year looks set to deliver a number of challenges as we face a UK general election and rapid regulatory and tax change across a number of areas from tax to tenancy reform and increased energy efficiency standards.
“John’s breadth of experience across the property industry will be crucial in helping to promote and better the industry as we go forward into what will undoubtedly be a period of change.”
Hamilton said he aims to secure “the best regulatory and tax environment that will support our industry and at the same time deliver the government’s key objective of delivering sustainable economic growth.”
