London-based DTZ employee British- born Sierra Leonean Memuna Janneh has launched a campaign to provide daily hot meals for patients and front-line health workers affected by Ebola in Sierra Leone.
The Lunch Is On Me campaign encourages members of the public to take a picture of their lunch, promote it via social media and donate the cost of that lunch to the cause, while nominating three others to do the same. The campaign aims to promote the LunchBoxGift project, which will provide 50,000 nutritious home-cooked meals to Ebola patients and healthcare workers along with purified water and anti-bacterial wipes. The cost of each lunch box is £1.
Janneh, group consolidation manager at DTZ, said: “As a British-born person with strong family links to Sierra Leone I couldn’t stand by and watch the Ebola crisis unfold without helping. With the quarantine and isolation measures required to stop the spread of Ebola in Sierra Leone, getting food to patients is extremely difficult and in most cases impossible. Based on the success of our feeding programme during the recent three-day lockdown, the LunchBoxGift team has been granted permission by the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone to distribute meals to people affected by Ebola in Freetown. I’m hoping that our campaign ‘Lunch Is On Me’ will raise awareness to this great cause and help to make a difference on the ground.”
Paul Ellis, head of DTZ’s community group, added: “Memuna has started a great initiative that we are very proud to support. As well as donating £1,000 to LunchBoxGift we are also promoting her work internally to encourage employees to get involved.”
