Southwark council has approved plans for a 26-storey Renzo Piano-designed residential tower to be built next to the Shard, SE1.
The 180,000 sq ft building, the latest phase of the Sellar Property-led 2m sq London Bridge Quarter regeneration project, will comprise 148 flats ranging from one to four bedrooms.
The new development will replace Fielden House, a 1950s office building, on London Bridge Street between the Shard and the News Building and 21-27 St Thomas Street, a 1990s office block adjacent to Joiner Street and opposite Guy’s Hospital.
Sellar and Real Estate Management will develop the building on behalf of LBQ Fielden, a joint venture between the State of Qatar and Sellar.
Work is expected to start at the end of 2015.
Sellar hopes to compelte the project by the end of 2018, the same time the redevelopment of London Bridge Station is due to finish.
